The new GLA 250 with all-wheel-drive starts at $38,230, or you could save a couple of thousand by choosing the model without all-wheel-drive. If you prefer, the 2021 Mercedes AMG® GLA 35 starts at $47,550 and includes all-wheel-drive.

The new GLA 250 is equipped with a 221-horsepower turbo-four engine, while the AMG® GLA 35 includes a 302-horsepower turbo-four instead. Both models include an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, while all-wheel-drive is only standard on the AMG® model. However, it can be added to the GLA 250.

With all-wheel-drive, the GLA 250 achieves 24/33 mpg, but the AMG® GLA 35 is rated at 23/29 mpg.

It doesn’t matter which GLA model you choose, there is room to hold five adults comfortably. Behind the rear seats, you will also find 15.4 cubic feet of space. When those seats are folded down, enjoy the 50.5 cubic feet of space, which is quite large for a small luxury crossover model.

Additionally, the interior features are pretty much the same between the GLA 250 and AMG® GLA 35. You will gain a seven-inch touch screen, a six-speaker sound system, dual-zone automatic climate control, remote start, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth®, HD Radio, a touchpad controller and four USB ports.

Whichever model you choose, the new GLA measures 174″ L x 72″ W x 64″ H. However, the GLA 250 includes 18-inch wheels, while the GLA 35 SUV contains 19-inch wheels instead. While there are nine exterior colors available for the GLA 250, you only have eight to choose from with the AMG® GLA 35.

Neither of these models has been evaluated with crash test ratings yet, but we expect them to fare well. You also gain access to a long list of standard safety features with both models. Look for a rearview camera, crosswind assist, forward collision warning, blind spot monitoring, automatic emergency braking and driver drowsiness monitoring. Even the vehicle exit warning comes standard, which alerts drivers when anyone is approaching from behind the vehicle when it comes time to open the doors.
